Meehan previously led Morgan Stanley’s legal department, and before that headed the anti-corruption unit at Credit Suisse. In all his roles, he has worked with the Asia-Pacific region.
This direction remains a priority for the exchange, Gemini said. They expect Meehan’s experience to be pivotal in advancing Gemini’s regulatory and compliance efforts in the region.
The Winklevoss brothers’ exchange began expanding into Asian markets several years ago. In October 2016 it broadened its service footprint to Hong Kong and Singapore, and a month later began operations in Japan and South Korea.
Gemini has also shown interest in other countries. Since September 2020 the exchange opened two subsidiaries in the United Kingdom: Gemini Europe Ltd and Gemini Europe Services Ltd.
