Crypto-Project Attacks Rise 63% in Q2 2023, Immunefi Reports

The number of hacks, cyber-attacks and fraudulent incidents aimed at the crypto industry in the second quarter of 2023 stood at 81. The figure rose by 63% compared with the same period last year, according to a report by Immunefi.

Over the preceding three months, about $265 million was lost: $220 million from hacks, $45 million from other incidents. This shows a 60.4% decrease in losses compared with Q2 2022, the authors noted.

The Atomic Wallet was the most affected; as a result, $100 million was stolen. Analysts separately noted the exit scam of the Fintoch project for $31.6 million.

“As attackers continue to expand their malicious activity and use increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes, users must carefully evaluate projects,” said Mitch Amador, the CEO of Immunefi.

In the first three months of 2023, blockchain projects lost more than $320 million.

Beosin experts estimated the crypto-industry losses from hacks and fraud in the first half of the year at $655.6 million.
