Cryptocurrency Absent from Trump-Harris Debate

The presidential debate between candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump concluded without addressing the topic of cryptocurrencies.

During the two-hour discussion, the candidates covered foreign policy, immigration, and their administrations’ work. Prior to the debate, 26% of Polymarket users anticipated mentions of Bitcoin or other digital assets.

According to the prediction platform, the odds of the opponents have evened out. Previously, Trump held a slight advantage. The betting volume on the outcome reached $864.3 million.

The absence of Bitcoin mentions in the debate elicited a moderately negative market reaction. 

At the time of writing, the first and second largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization are down 1.9% and 2.3% respectively, amid a 0.14% decline in the S&P 500 index.

Trump-related PolitiFi tokens appear weaker than the market: MAGA (TRUMP) fell by 9.9%, Doland Tremp (TREMP) by 31.1%, and MAGA Hat (MAGA) by 22%. Meanwhile, Kamala Horris (KAMA) rose by 1%, according to CoinGecko.

The capitalization of PoliFi tokens overall decreased by 8.9%, to just over $538 million.

By the end of the year, the price of digital gold could reach $90,000 if the Republican candidate wins or fall to $30,000 if he loses to Kamala Harris, according to Bernstein.

Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan concluded that politicians’ attitudes are irrelevant to the crypto industry. Former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes expressed a similar opinion.

In August, journalists questioned Harris’s support for the digital asset industry due to her absence from Crypto4Harris events. Her campaign denied these claims.
