Rosseti North Caucasus identified several illegally connected mining farms, according to the company’s website.
Activity by one of the perpetrators was halted by Rosseti’s regional branch specialists in cooperation with law enforcement during a raid to prevent energy theft.
The damage from the mining farm’s operation is estimated at more than 1.7 million rubles.
Another case of electricity theft for mining was detected in Dagestan’s capital. A resident of Makhachkala installed a mining farm in a garage and has already fully reimbursed 247,000 rubles of damages.
The press service noted that Dagestan is the “anti-leader” among Russian regions in terms of the number of identified illegal mining farms.
“Energy officials calculated that the aggregate economic damage from mining theft in the macroregion since May last year exceeded 200 million rubles,” the statement said.
In response, the company has stepped up efforts to identify cases of illegal connections to power grids.
Earlier in June, law enforcement in the outskirts of Makhachkala uncovered an illegal mining farm, with damage estimated at more than 34 million rubles.
