Dapper Labs imposes restrictions on Russian-linked user addresses
The NFT company Dapper Labs has imposed restrictions on addresses affiliated with Russian-linked users. The team said the measures are tied to European sanctions.
On 6 October 2022, the EU approved the eighth package of sanctions against Russia, which prohibited Russians from owning cryptocurrency wallets in the eurozone.
Russian citizens and residents will also be unable to create accounts or hold digital assets in the EU, regardless of the deposit amount.
“Our payment-processing and custody-services partner complies with EU rules. He has asked us to take action regarding accounts belonging to those affected by the 6 October restrictions,” the statement said.
According to the press release, users in Russia can no longer buy, sell, or gift NFTs, nor perform other operations on the Dapper Labs platform. The company emphasised that the accounts of such customers were not blocked — they remain the owners of non-fungible tokens.
Dapper Labs is behind the development of the NFT game CryptoKitties and the Flow blockchain, on which another of its projects — NBA Top Shot — is built.
As ForkLog notes, experts say the restriction on European crypto firms from serving Russian users will be quite critical for the latter.
