Dash Core Group launches DashDirect, a consumer payments app for DASH in the United States

Dash Core Group developers launched the consumer payments app DashDirect, enabling the use of the DASH cryptocurrency to pay for goods and services at US merchants.

The app was developed through a joint effort of fintech company CrayPay and Dash Core Group. The project was financed by the Dash Investment Foundation, aimed at developing the ecosystem of the peer-to-peer payments platform.

According to the press release, more than 155,000 point-of-sale and 125 online stores in the United States accept DashDirect as a payment method. The app enables savings of up to 12% on purchases due to discounts provided by project partners.

The latest additions include the retail chains Best Buy, GameStop, Home Depot and other merchants.

The company argues that the app launch will foster cryptocurrency adoption among everyday consumers, as “people now have a real reason to actually use digital assets.” As of writing, it is available only in the United States, but the product is planned to roll out to new markets in the future.

The developers emphasised that DashDirect is a non-custodial application. To access user funds it uses the official Dash wallet and does not charge a fee for converting funds.

According to the Dash site, in the first quarter of 2021 the volume of payments on the platform exceeded $3.64 billion. It is used daily by about 86,000 users, who on average conduct 23,660 transactions.

As reported in October 2020, Dash Core Group’s marketing director Fernando Gutierrez stated that DASH should not be regarded as one of the privacy-focused cryptocurrencies. According to him, its best definition is a means of payment.
