Data on thousands of Bitcoin traders posted on the dark web
A hacker stole the personal data of users of the CryptoTrader.Tax service, designed for tax accounting when trading digital currencies. This is reported by CoinDesk.

The victims were at least 1,082 customers. The hacker gained access to the resource’s database through an employee’s support account. This allowed him to extract user data, including names, email addresses, partial information about profits from cryptocurrency trades, and information about profiles in payment systems.
\n
CryptoTrader.Tax confirmed the breach. The company’s co-founder, David Kemmerer, said that the attacker downloaded a file with a database of 13,000 lines, of which 1,082 are unique email addresses. According to him, user accounts were not compromised.
\n
After the data theft the hacker posted ads to sell the database on dark web forums.

CryptoTrader.Tax supports integration with 36 cryptocurrency exchanges. It enables users to calculate the tax due and prepare the corresponding documentation. The services are provided on a monthly paid subscription.

Last week it emerged that the former head of Uber’s security paid hackers $100,000 in BTC to cover up the data breach.
