Deutsche Börse’s Clearstream to Offer Bitcoin and Ethereum Custody Services
Clearstream, the post-trading division of Deutsche Börse, is set to offer institutional clients cryptocurrency settlement and custody services starting next month, according to Bloomberg.
The company will begin with Bitcoin and Ethereum, leveraging the capabilities of its subsidiary Crypto Finance. Clearstream plans to later expand support to other cryptocurrencies and offer staking, lending, and brokerage services.
According to Clearstream representative Jens Hachmeister, the company’s goal is to create a unified solution for custody, trading, and settlement. In the future, these services may include stablecoins and tokenized assets.
The new services will be integrated into existing accounts of Clearstream Banking SA clients, simplifying access to cryptocurrency operations.
Crypto Finance CEO Stijn Vander Straeten noted that there is currently high demand for such services. He stated that the company began developing the offering a year ago when interest in digital assets was low. The new service will also help banks save on developing their own crypto teams, which can cost up to €5 million annually.
Clearstream is one of the largest post-trading firms in Europe. As of January 2025, the volume of assets under custody amounted to approximately €20 trillion.
Back in September 2024, CoinDesk reported that Commerzbank, in collaboration with Crypto Finance, would offer corporate clients cryptocurrency trading and custody services.
