Deutsche Telekom has announced an AI smartphone based on the Perplexity chatbot. The product was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
The gadget is equipped with the Perplexity AI digital assistant and a suite of AI tools, including:
- Google Cloud AI — for real-time translation and object recognition using the camera;
- ElevenLabs — enabling voice creation;
- Picsart — offering avatar creation for profile photo personalization.
All features operate on Deutsche Telekom’s proprietary system, Magenta AI. It is available to everyone via the MeinMagenta app without the new gadget, which is expected to be released in the second half of 2025.
Deutsche Telekom presented the smartphone concept at MWC 2024. It is positioned as an “app-free” device, voice-controlled and capable of independently booking flights or reserving restaurant tables.
In a press release, Deutsche Telekom board member Claudia Nemat stated that the future phone with artificial intelligence and the Perplexity Assistant will be able to order taxis and make purchases without needing to switch between apps.
The technical specifications of the anticipated gadget remain unknown. Judging by available images, it resembles budget Android devices with large bezels at the top and bottom.
