The fault led to an almost complete halt of transactions on the Avalanche blockchain. The cause was abnormal load amid the launch of a new DeFi product Pangolin, the developers wrote on Reddit.
One of the network’s three cross-chain bridges was issuing erroneous information to validators about moved AVAX tokens. Users noted that the wait time to complete transactions stretched up to four hours.
Avalanche representatives said that the funds were safe and the core protocol was fine. According to them, the network had entered “self-recovery” mode.
Soon after, the developers said the error had been identified, fixed and did not lead to double-spending on the network.
The Avalanche Network is live and operating normally. 88.58% of nodes and 97.26% of stake, constituting far more than the necessary percentage, have upgraded to version 1.2. Exchanges are returning service as they complete updates.

Earlier, on February 9, the ChainSafe created a bridge between the Avalanche and Ethereum blockchains to move DeFi project assets across ecosystems.
In September 2020, the project Avalanche launched the mainnet.
