Developers Launch ‘Launchpad’ for Ethereum 2.0 Validators

The nonprofit Ethereum Foundation and Consensys have launched a beta version of Launchpad. It provides a launchpad-style panel to prepare validators for staking in Ethereum 2.0’s second version.

According to Consensys founder Joseph Lubin, this is the next step toward Ethereum 2.0 Phase 0. It precedes the start of tests on the final Medalla testnet, which is scheduled to launch on August 4.

Launchpad will help prospective validators understand the basics of staking, acquaint them with the three phases of Ethereum 2.0 deployment, and explain how rewards are earned.

To launch the testnet, 16,384 validators must stake 524,288 ETH (128 ETH has already been staked). If this requirement is not met two days before the planned start of testing, the launch will be postponed.

The new network will be supported by four clients: Lighthouse, Nimbus, Prysm, and Teku.

Vitalik Buterin urged accelerating the preparation of ETH 2.0 clients for the first phase, to test their operability in practice.
