Digital-rights advocates urge Valve to drop ban on blockchain games

The non-profit organization defending digital rights Fight for the Future urged Valve to lift the ban on hosting games built on distributed ledger technology and NFT on the Steam platform.

The open letter was signed by Blockchain Game Alliance, Enjin, and 26 other blockchain-game companies.

“Cutting off this growing sector at such a crucial stage of development would mean ignoring the significant progress we have made this year, while at the same time creating unfair market access for traditional players,” said Sebastien Borget, president of the Blockchain Game Alliance.

According to Fight for the Future, a DAO and non-fungible tokens could make blockchain games “more decentralized, democratic, interactive systems oriented toward players.”

“Please consider changing your position on this issue,” the letter says.

In mid-October, the game developer Valve Corporation banned hosting blockchain games that allow issuing or exchanging cryptocurrencies or NFTs on the Steam platform.
