Do Kwon, Terra’s founder, to stand trial in January 2026
The trial of Terra founder Do Kwon is scheduled for January 2026. Lawyers cited the need to process a substantial volume of evidence, reports Inner City Press.
“The trial will begin on January 26, 2026. I give you one week to request another date, otherwise — ‘the train has left’,” noted Judge Paul Engelmayer.
According to preliminary court filings, the prosecution needs to review “terabytes” of case data, including information on Kwon’s devices, his online accounts, email, trading history and third-party testimony. Some of the materials must also be translated from Korean.
Kwon faces eight counts, including several forms of securities and commodities fraud using electronic communications. On January 2, 2025, money laundering was added to the list. The defendant has pleaded not guilty.
According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice, he faces up to 130 years in prison.
The next pretrial conference to plan the course of the proceedings is set for March 6.
The Terra founder is being held in a New York correctional facility pending further proceedings.
On December 31, Montenegro completed Kwon’s extradition to the United States.
