DockerCon sees launch of blockchain for decentralized governance of Git libraries

At DockerCon, announced the launch of the Git Open Source Hodler (GOSH) project — a blockchain for storing and managing source-code libraries. It runs on the Everscale protocol.

“Current Git systems are not secure and were not designed for open-source projects. Software governance has always implied handing code over to a centralized entity, and until now there was no way to govern code libraries via the community. GOSH changes this, enabling developers to turn Git repositories into DAO and build a system for achieving collective consensus,” said the Chief Technology Officer of EverX, Dmitry Goroshevsky, presenting the project.

Any changes to the repository are recorded and stored on-chain. According to the creators, this will allow tracking and verifying new code additions rather than relying on social metrics such as ‘stars’ and ratings. All software elements in the libraries on the new blockchain can be traced back to the original source code.

GOSH became a participant in the Docker Extensions program, and within the project the GOSH Docker extension was also released. It enables developers to confirm that the application container is written using components only from original smart contracts.

The new blockchain platform is already used by developers at Amaze and BitRezus.

Earlier Amaze, in cooperation with Everscale implemented NFT support into its website-building platform without the need to write code.
