Dogecoin cryptocurrency received a ‘minor update with important performance improvements’. The developers recommended that users upgrade.

As Dogecoin has resumed development of the cryptocurrency amid price record highs. The previous client version had been in use since November 2019.
The main improvement of Dogecoin Core 1.14.3 was faster synchronization. According to the description, the acceleration was achieved by removing costly integrity checks. Previously they were performed with every block transfer from one node to another.
“People say this is a joke coin, but we treat the code with great care. Interest in the token has returned along with the price surge, and we want to keep the asset in working order,” said Ross Nicoll, the lead Dogecoin developer, in a commentary to CoinDesk.
The developers also changed the parameter for caching transactions in the mempool from 336 hours to 24. Users can adjust the parameter manually, but in the update description the default value was deemed the most optimal for nodes.
Launched in 2013 as a joke digital asset, Dogecoin has become more popular amid support from Elon Musk. He has repeatedly posted memes featuring the altcoin’s symbol — a Shiba Inu dog.
In early February, the founder of Tesla posted a series of tweets about Dogecoin, which pushed the token’s price up by almost 50%. On Wednesday, February 24, Musk posted again on Twitter a picture with a dog — the coin’s price rose by 20% in a day.
Earlier he called Dogecoin his favorite cryptocurrency, and recently said that he bought the altcoin for his younger son.
As noted previously, Musk urged major holders of the asset to sell part of the coins, to avoid centralisation. More than 28% of the token’s market supply or 36.8 billion DOGE are concentrated on a single address.
