Dogecoin hits annual high on its tenth anniversary

On December 6, Dogecoin (DOGE) turned ten years old. The meme cryptocurrency’s price reached its highest level in a year — $0.102.

In the last 24 hours, the asset rose by almost 17%. The positive momentum could have been sparked by the Bitcoin rally, which pulled other altcoins into the green zone.

The meme token again rose to 10th place by market capitalization on the CoinGecko list, with a market cap of $14.5 billion. 24-hour trading volume exceeded $3.2 billion.

Despite hitting local highs, the cryptocurrency would need to rise sevenfold to reach the ATH of $0.73, recorded in May 2021.

Dogecoin was launched on December 6, 2013 by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, a sales department employee at Adobe Systems, who decided to joke about the rapidly growing number of cryptocurrencies.

The X community is actively congratulating the project on its anniversary, but Dogecoin’s biggest admirer, Elon Musk, has abstained.

SHIB, PEPE and BONK also rose noticeably. Overall, the meme-cryptocurrency group in the list CoinGecko‘s meme-token category registered active growth in the past week.

In December, the Dogecoin community will send a physical wallet with tokens to the Moon. The project will be carried out as part of Astrobotic’s Peregrine Mission One.
