Doja Cat’s X Account Compromised to Promote Scam Token

Hackers breached the account of American rapper, singer, and songwriter Doja Cat to promote the DOJA token on Solana.

One of the posts urged her 5.6 million followers to purchase DOJA. Another post included a crude remark directed at fellow artist Iggy Azalea, who had previously released her own meme coin, Mother Iggy (MOTHER).

“Be rude if you want, but in reality, I’m fine with this girl. So you messed up with these hacker tweets,” she wrote in response.

The Doja Cat token (DOJA), likely promoted by the hackers, initially reached a market cap of ~$500,000 after launch, but its price subsequently plummeted. At the time of writing, the entire market supply of the coin is valued at $14,000, according to DEX Screener. Trading volume reached $2.2 million within a few hours.

In June, unknown individuals hacked the official X account of the American metal band Metallica to promote a purported fan token, METAL, on Solana. After a rapid increase in the asset’s market cap to $3.37 million, it crashed to just $7,600.

In early July, hackers executed a similar Pump & Dump scheme by accessing the X account of Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney. Through several posts made in her name, the turnover of the associated token SWEENEY on Solana exceeded $10 million within two hours of launch, before its price fell by 90%.

Back in May, hackers targeted social media accounts of various influencers and celebrities to promote crypto scams.
