Donald Trump releases a second edition of his NFT collection
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is currently facing legal proceedings, released a second collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) — Trump Digital Trading Cards.
“I am pleased to report that, thanks to the great success of my earlier-launched digital cards, we are doing this again,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The new series comprises 47,000 NFTs depicting the politician in various guises. 1,000 of them are held by the developers. The tokens themselves are created on the Polygon blockchain.
Trump’s collectible cards were priced at $99. The former U.S. president said that all the new NFTs sold out in just 10 minutes.
Trump released the first NFT collection in December 2022. This event drew criticism not only from the crypto community but also from circles allied with the politician.
Despite the criticism, trading volume of the collectible cards surged 440% ahead of Trump’s indictment in court. The NFT collection generated $4.5 million and over $100,000 in royalties from secondary sales. The most expensive lot sold for 23.99 ETH ($42,990 at the time of the deal).
According to CoinDesk, the first series of cards brought the former U.S. president between $100,001 and $1 million.
