
eBay acquires NFT marketplace KnownOrigin
The American online marketplace eBay has acquired the British non-fungible token (NFT) platform KnownOrigin. Details of the deal and the price have not been disclosed.

“During meetings, they [eBay] impressed us with their willingness to learn, embrace and dive into Web3. … NFTs are rapidly becoming the future of the creative industry, and our technical innovations combined with the eBay brand and community will give us a wonderful opportunity to play a meaningful and enduring role in the development of the space,” said KnownOrigin.
The parties signed the agreement on June 21.
In the spring of 2021, eBay allowed users to trade NFTs. Previously, the head of the company Jamie Iannone stated that the platform was considering the possibility of accepting payments in cryptocurrencies.
In May 2022, eBay launched an NFT collection as part of a partnership with OneOf.
On June 21, Uniswap Labs announced the purchase of the NFT marketplace aggregator Genie.
Earlier, the Solana-based NFT marketplace Magic Eden attracted $130 million from Electric Capital and Greylock Partners.
