eBay announces the launch of its first NFT collection
The American online marketplace eBay запустила коллекцию невзаимозаменяемых токенов in partnership with the NFT platform OneOf.
“NFT and blockchain technology are revolutionising the collecting space and are increasingly viewed as an investment opportunity for enthusiasts,” said Dawn Block, eBay’s vice president.
The Genesis debut collection includes 3D- and animated images of iconic athletes who appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated. For the first NFT, they chose Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky, a four-time Stanley Cup champion.

“Forty years ago I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated; it was a landmark moment in my life. It is a great honour to offer hockey fans who have followed my career for decades a collectible experience,” Gretzky said.
Earlier, the partnership with OneOf was announced by DJ and producer Alesso and the American Recording Academy.
In May 2021 OneOf raised $63 million in a seed funding round. The round included climate activist Bill Tai, Jack Herrick, Suna Said of Nima Capital, Sangha Capital and the Tezos Foundation.
In May 2021, eBay allowed users to trade NFTs. Previously, CEO Jamie Iannone said the platform was considering accepting cryptocurrency payments.
