The American online marketplace eBay is considering accepting payments in digital assets, chief executive Jamie Iannone said on CNBC.
According to Iannone, eBay is exploring options to add new payment options for its customers, including cryptocurrencies.
He also noted that the company is interested in the non-fungible token sector and is exploring ways to organise NFT sales.
In May 2019, crypto enthusiasts noticed an eBay advertisement bearing the words ‘Digital currencies. It’s happening on eBay.’ Later, representatives of the platform dismissed rumors of adding cryptocurrency support.
Back in March 2021, Elon Musk announced the start of Tesla’s electric-car sales in the United States for Bitcoin.
In April, the flexible-workspace provider WeWork announced the acceptance of payments in the first cryptocurrency.
