Humanoid robots Optimus could propel Tesla’s market capitalization to $25 trillion—more than half of the current market cap of all firms in the S&P 500 index. This was stated by the company’s head, Elon Musk, according to CNBC.
He did not specify a timeline for reaching this milestone.
At the annual shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas, the billionaire noted that Tesla is “not just beginning a new chapter, but is about to write an entirely new book with Optimus as the main character.”
“Someday, robots will function like R2-D2 and C-3PO from ‘Star Wars’. They will cook for you or clean, work in factories, or even teach children,” Musk speculated.
In 2025, Tesla will commence limited production of Optimus and begin testing them in its factories. The entrepreneur forecasts that next year the company will have 1,000 or several thousand robots.
The billionaire announced these plans following a shareholder vote approving a $56 billion compensation package for him.
Tesla introduced the humanoid robot in 2021. In December 2023, the company showcased the Optimus Gen 1 model, which can walk forward, calibrate body parts, move them across 11 axes, and assume various poses.
Back in 2022, Musk stated that Tesla’s robotics business would become more profitable than its automotive division.
