Elon Musk predicts general AI by 2029
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he expected that by 2029 humanity would have developed general artificial intelligence (AGI).
2029 feels like a pivotal year. I’d be surprised if we don’t have AGI by then. Hopefully, people on Mars too.

Gary Marcus, author of Rebooting AI and a vocal critic of AGI, in an открытом письме proposed that Musk wager $100,000 on whether AGI would appear by 2029.
He added that the entrepreneur’s comments are unhelpful in broader discussions about AI.
“Musk’s statements about AGI only fuel the hype around modern technologies, whereas we probably need to take a step back to understand where we are and confront the hard problems in earnest,” Marcus said.
In his view, too much funding is going to \”not what is needed\”.
“There is a tendency to treat AGI as something magical. This has misled corporate business and politicians,” the scientist added.
Musk did not respond to the challenge. Marcus noted the need for public debate regardless of whether money is at stake.
Earlier in March, Tesla included artificial intelligence in its long-term development plan.
In January, the automaker could play an important role in creating AGI, and also prevent a potential uprising of machines against humans.
In April 2021, the businessman said that Tesla would become one of the largest AI companies in the world.
