Elon Musk questions the existence of a Bitcoin ATM at Tesla’s Gigafactory

Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and SpaceX, cast doubt on the existence of a Bitcoin ATM at the Gigafactory site in Nevada. But LibertyX, the operator of the ATMs, says that staff can still buy BTC.

The first to report a Bitcoin terminal at the Gigafactory was Will Reeves, the CEO of Fold, the company that developed the Fold payment app. In a tweet, he attached a screenshot from Google Maps showing the device’s location.

LibertyX noted that the local Bitcoin ATM is "one of many benefits for Tesla employees".

In a comment to Finbold, a LibertyX representative explained that there is no standalone terminal on the factory premises. The ability to sell Bitcoin has been added to three ordinary ATMs.

“When the operator activates this capability, consumers can begin buying Bitcoin using debit cards at ATMs nationwide. We have already rolled out on 5,000 terminals and plan to add support for more than 100,000 in the coming years,” the spokesperson said.

Musk questioned the accuracy of the information about the Bitcoin ATM installation.

“I don’t think this is accurate,” Musk wrote.

The post to which Musk replied appears to have been deleted, reportedly after his response. A social-media user noted this.

Earlier in July, the head of Tesla and SpaceX rejected Ethereum testing in its projects. He emphasised his neutral stance toward cryptocurrency and added that he does not use or own Ethereum.
