Elon Musk: Tesla to become one of the world’s largest AI companies

Elon Musk said that Tesla will become one of the world’s largest AI companies in the near future. He hinted that Google remains far ahead.

Musk is also confident that the only way to solve the autonomous driving problem is to solve most real AI, something Tesla, he says, is not pursuing, he added.

“It’s hopeless if a company isn’t good at AI with hard computing. It’s insanely hard,” — he added.

At present Tesla is preparing to release its Full Self-Driving Beta software, which is currently available to a small group of testers.

According to Musk, unlike most companies developing autonomous vehicles, Tesla’s self-driving software does not rely on sensor‑fusion or LiDAR; instead it relies solely on video cameras and computer-vision technology.

In February, Tesla invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin.

In April 2021, Waymo’s CEO, the developer of autonomous vehicles, left his post. Analysts suggested the company was preparing to expand its robotaxi network.

In early March, Honda launched for sale the first autonomous vehicle capable of operating the vehicle by itself under driver supervision.

In December 2020, Lyft said it would deploy fully autonomous vehicles in many US cities in 2023.
