Elon Musk to Step Down as Head of DOGE ‘on Schedule’
Elon Musk has stated that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under his leadership will complete most of the work required to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion “on schedule.”
The DOGE project was initiated by the White House to optimize the federal budget. Musk was appointed as a special government employee with a work limit of 130 days. His term is expected to end in May.
The businessman is confident that DOGE can save $1 trillion by reducing the current total federal government spending from $7 trillion to $6 trillion.
According to him, the Department’s team is cutting government spending “by $4 billion a day, every day, seven days a week.”
So far, DOGE has already saved taxpayers $115 billion by reducing staff numbers, selling assets, and canceling contracts. Musk emphasized that his team’s actions will not affect critical government services.
“America will become solvent. […]. If this initiative does not succeed, the country’s ship will sink,” the businessman stated.
According to Politico, U.S. President Donald Trump hinted that upon the completion of the 130-day period, Musk may have to return to managing his companies on a permanent basis.
According to Reuters, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt, citing Musk and Trump, clarified that the businessman “will leave public service when his incredible work in DOGE is completed.”
Trump noted that the efficiency model created by the entrepreneur will continue to operate, as government members have already gained the necessary experience in optimizing expenses.
Back on March 30, Musk stated that the U.S. authorities do not plan to use the meme-coin Dogecoin. According to him, despite the similar names, the Department has nothing to do with the “funny coin.”
