Etched and Decart Unveil AI-Generated Game Demo

The startup Etched, in collaboration with Decart, has unveiled a demo version of what they claim to be the “first playable AI-generated game.”

Oasis is a Minecraft clone that generates a map based on keyboard inputs. Players can navigate the world, constructing or demolishing terrain.

AI is employed to create “every pixel in real-time without using a game engine.” For instance, pressing the forward button prompts the neural network to simulate character movement. The functionality resembles real-time video generation adjusted for user actions.

According to a review by YouTube blogger Phoenix SC, the game’s beta version operates at 360p with lags, visual artifacts, and poor response to keystrokes.

“Gameplay is just the beginning. Soon, a large portion of the internet will be AI-generated, with over 70% of internet traffic being video,” the developers noted.

The Oasis demo is created using Nvidia H100 graphics processors. Etched is developing its own chipset, Sohu, which is “several times faster.”

“Sohu is designed to handle large video models operating in 4K for neural networks with over 100 billion parameters,” the project team emphasized.

Back in August, the Chinese online game publisher Kunlun Tech launched an AI-based tool for creating short dramas.
