Ethereum 2.0 developers to launch Zinken testnet after Spadina setback
Ethereum developers will launch the new final testnet Zinken ahead of ETH2 Phase 0 on the mainnet. In it they will address the bugs discovered in the Spadina network.

Oh you, Spadina,
Finally, finality

Launched on 29 September, the Spadina testnet did not prove to be a dress rehearsal for the Ethereum 2.0 genesis block. On the same day, the lead developer of the Ethereum 2.0 project, Danny Ryan, said that due to configuration problems, bootnodes, and genesis calculations, the testnet clients faced delays in finalisation.
Today we launched, Spadina, a dress rehearsal for eth2 genesis.
Although the eth2 clients have generally become quite robust, the long wait for finality today highlighted issues closer to the edge of the stack — cli options, testnet config, bootnodes, genesis calculation bugs

Zinken here we come — stoked to see failures prior to the real deal. No better way to learn. Shoutout to @dannyryan and all the client teams for the hard work. Get your goerli ready 🏄♂️🌊🏄♂️🌊@prylabs @sigp_io @Butta_eth @VitalikButerin @protolambda https://t.co/wA2BnBeYyV

Key details about Zinken:
- Developers launched the educational portal for the new testnet.
- Deposits will be possible until 8 October at 12:00 UTC.
- Genesis block formation is expected around 12 October at 12:00 UTC.
Earlier, developers launched the final Medalla testnet on 4 August. Ten days later a failure occurred, which Prysmatic Labs developer Raul Jordan called a good lesson “to prevent such a situation in the mainnet”.
In September, Ethereum 2.0 developer Evan Van Ness stated, that the countdown to Ethereum 2.0 launch “is measured in weeks”.
