Ethereum Activity Surges Amid Record Low Gas Fees

Ethereum fees remain low despite increased activity; transaction costs at 0.16 gwei.

Despite an increase in on-chain activity, Ethereum network fees remain near historical lows. On October 26, the cost of a transaction was 0.16 gwei (approximately $0.01).

At the time of writing, the figure had adjusted to 0.36 gwei (around $0.02).

Token swaps cost $0.33, while selling an NFT costs $0.56.

The chart below shows that the average transaction fee is near multi-year lows.

Such low values contrast with periods of heightened on-chain activity, when increased transaction demand caused gas price spikes.

However, Ethereum network inflation persists, albeit at a low level. According to Ultra Sound Money, over the past seven days, the volume of tokens burned was lower than the issuance of new coins.

On October 28, the number of daily transactions in the network reached 1.6 million, a monthly high.

Notably, the surge in on-chain activity occurs amid a decline in other metrics. For instance, since May, the number of active addresses has been steadily falling.

The volume of on-chain value transferred is also decreasing.

TRON Sets New Records

The TRON network also demonstrated record activity. Analysts attribute the growth to the blockchain’s popularity among retail users due to its high speed and low fees.

According to TRONSCAN, on October 28, the number of active addresses in the network reached 5.7 million in a day, surpassing the previous record of 5.4 million.

The number of transactions exceeded 12.6 million, the highest since June 12, 2023.

“No headlines. No hype. Just raw throughput,” commented Nansen.

On August 29, a vote concluded on a proposal to reduce TRON fees by 60%. The majority of the community supported the initiative.
