During the All Core Developers meeting, Ethereum developers proposed dividing the major Pectra update into two phases. The first phase is planned for activation in early 2025.
The idea is being advanced to expedite the implementation of the first upgrade, potentially by February next year.
“Splitting the fork only makes sense if we are talking about an update in the first quarter,” noted developer Dennison Ferrin.
The final decision is expected at the next All Core Developers meeting.
“I think that a split where we send the first part of the update, say, in June, would be a failure,” commented Ethereum Foundation researcher Ansgar Dietrichs.
Developers noted that breaking the update into two smaller parts would be safer, allowing for the integration of less significant changes at each stage.
Back in May, the network team decided to integrate Pectra. The update aims to make the system more flexible, efficient, and user-friendly.
