“This upgrade will follow The Merge and allow validators to withdraw their funds from staking on the Beacon Chain back to the execution layer,” the team reminded.
The Shapella hard fork includes changes to the consensus layer (Capella) and the execution layer (Shanghai), as well as to the Engine API.
In November 2022, for testing the upgrade, developers launched devnet.
In January 2023, they successfully implemented a shadow fork to test the impact of the planned upgrade on the mainnet. In February, the team created the public Zhejiang network for testing asset withdrawals from the Beacon Chain.
Ahead of the upgrade, node operators and validators in Sepolia must update their clients to the latest published version to avoid being left on an outdated one, developers reminded.
After Sepolia, the hard fork will be tested on the Goerli network, and then rolled out on the mainnet. This is expected to happen in March.
Only 31% of Ethereum stakers are in the green relative to current market quotes, Binance Research found.
