The Ethereum blockchain team carry out the Dencun hard fork on test networks in the first two months of 2024.

According to Tim Beiko, the project lead, if everything goes as planned, deployments are expected on the following schedule:
\n\n
- \n
- January 17 on Goerli;
- January 30 on Sepolia;
- February 7 on Holesky.

\”Obviously, if we encounter a serious problem or something crazy earlier, we can always cancel the process. Ideally, we will publish a blog post about the fork somewhere within the week of January 8, so that people have at least a week to upgrade,\” Beiko added.

After a successful launch on the test nets, Dencun will be deployed to the mainnet by the end of February.
\n\n
Initially the hard fork was scheduled for Q4 2023, but the developers pushed back it to the next year, citing persistent issues with consensus.
\n\n
Dencun is the update that implements the EIP-4844. It includes the option Proto-Danksharding, intended to scale the network by creating a new type of transaction for large data blobs. It is expected to reduce fees for L2 solutions based on the technology Rollups.
\n\n
The hard fork envisages overhaul of the consensus (Deneb) and execution (Cancun) layers.
\n\n
In September, the Holesky testnet launch took place, which is intended to replace Goerli. The testnet is designed to play a key role in implementing Dencun, providing stricter conditions for validating the upgrade.
