Ethereum doubles bug-bounty rewards ahead of Shanghai hard fork
The maximum bounty for discovered vulnerabilities in Shanghai/Capella (Shapella) has been doubled from $250,000 to $500,000 by the hard fork on April 12. The Ethereum Foundation arrived at this decision following a developers’ meeting.
The upgrade is expected to implement EIP-4895 — a proposal to improve the mainnet that would enable users to withdraw funds from staking.
The organization’s bug-bounty program covers vulnerabilities across various aspects of the network, including the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm, its integrity and network security.
During the event, engineer Paritosh Jayanthi outlined plans to perform a final shadow fork after the final client software versions are released.
The Ethereum Foundation urged node operators to update their software in the days remaining until Shapella.
On March 14, developers activated Shapella on the Goerli testnet, marking the final verification of the updates. A similar step preceded this in Sepolia.
Earlier, CryptoQuant analysts questioned the mass selling of ETH after Shapella.
Earlier, Binance Research analysts calculated that only 31% of Ethereum stakers are in profit relative to current market quotes.
