Ethereum team targets tentative date for Shanghai hard fork activation
The Ethereum team plans to activate the Shanghai hard fork around March 2023. The update includes EIP-4895, which will enable withdrawals of ETH from the Beacon Chain staking contract.
With the upcoming hard fork, developers also plan to implement a set of improvements (EIP-3540, EIP-3670, EIP-4200, EIP-4750, EIP-5450), oriented toward implementing the (EOF). The latter enables verifying smart contracts and making changes to them during deployment.
“The consensus-layer team believes that EIP-4844 is not as ready as [EIP-4895]. Their combination will significantly delay the withdrawal of assets,” said Ethereum Foundation analyst Danny Ryan.
In November 2022, the project team launched a devnet to test the withdrawal function by validators of the cryptocurrency from the deposit contract.
