Over 150,000 Ethereum validators, representing 15% of the network, have backed an increase in the gas limit to 60 million, up from the current 36 million.
This change will enhance block throughput, allowing more transactions and data to be processed in each block.
The adjustment will automatically take effect once it is supported by more than 50% of network participants. A hard fork is not required for this change, as validators manually configure their nodes.
Earlier increases were implemented in February (from 30 million to 36 million) and in 2021, when it was raised from 15 million to 30 million.
Some developers caution that increasing the limit could lead to greater strain on node operators’ equipment and potentially affect network performance.
Back on May 19, network co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed reducing the node state size.
