Evmos to discontinue Cosmos transactions in favor of EVM networks

The Evmos team plans to discontinue Cosmos transactions and focus exclusively onEVM. The Block reports.

The transition is driven by a desire to improve development efficiency by eliminating the need to support two operation formats.

From a technical standpoint, this means that the base network will interact exclusively with Ethereum-based wallets and tooling.

The developers will phase out Cosmos transactions support by the third quarter of 2024.

To date, the team has faced compatibility issues for both clients. The protocol currently processes separate transaction hashes for the two blockchain ecosystems.

This discrepancy prevents Cosmos transactions from being indexed by EVM-based wallets, which, in turn, hinders user experience.

After switching to the Ethereum Virtual Machine, Evmos will require a smaller infrastructure footprint. This will free up resources to improve user experience and functional interoperability.

Evmos will continue to support core Cosmos features such as staking and token transfers via EVM extensions.

Users with Cosmos wallets will need to switch to Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible clients. Popular apps such as WalletConnect, Rabby, and MetaMask have pledged the necessary support.

In April, Dymension launched an EVM-compatible testnet with rollups support in the Cosmos platform ecosystem.
