EXMO sets date for resumption of deposits and withdrawals

The cryptocurrency exchange EXMO, which recently suffered a hack, will resume deposits and withdrawals for major cryptocurrencies on December 25-26, 2020.

To make deposits and withdrawals in crypto assets, users will need to create a new wallet.

“All user deposits made after December 21 and before the date of updating the deposit wallet addresses in your accounts will be credited to your account. After the wallets are updated, deposits to old addresses will not be credited,” the message said.

EXMO specialists continue to investigate the incident and are developing a new hot wallet infrastructure.

“Because a separate server is required for each blockchain, the process will take some time,” said representatives of the exchange.

Update: Hackers moved a portion of the stolen funds totaling almost $4 million through the Poloniex exchange.

“After we received information from EXMO, we quickly identified and froze two accounts. Unfortunately, all affected assets were withdrawn several hours before EXMO contacted us,” сообщил a representative of Poloniex’s compliance department.

According to EXMO’s calculations, hackers managed to withdraw $1 million in XRP and $2.8 million in ZEC.

Earlier, on December 21, an unknown person withdrew funds from EXMO’s hot wallets in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Tether, Zcash and XRP. According to preliminary estimates, damage amounted to $10.5 million.

As a result of the attack, the platform lost 6% of its total assets.

Later it emerged that similar Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses of attackers were used in the theft of funds from the Livecoin exchange, which was hacked, it became known on December 24.
