Expert predicts lawsuits against Twitter following its rebranding to X

The social platform X (formerly Twitter) could face lawsuits related to the rebranding, which in the coming years could require up to $100 million to cover costs. This conclusion was reached by lawyer Josh Gerben.

According to the specialist, lawsuits related to trademark infringement could already be filed in the United States within a few weeks. In particular, Microsoft and Meta own similar logos for various products and services.

Gerben also warned that X could face legal issues on the international stage, which could become ‘a big issue’ for many years.

“Renouncing such a valuable asset [the blue bird] in favour of the new brand is unprecedented in history. It takes years of effort to register X not only in the United States but also in other countries. The chance that Elon Musk will be able to achieve this for all planned services in every country of interest is exceedingly low,” — explained the expert.

Gerben noted that the owner could offer virtually any product under the Twitter brand worldwide (thanks to its fame and existing registrations).

On 24 July 2023 the platform changed the social network’s name to “X” and dropped the iconic blue bird from its logo, opting for a black color scheme. Musk’s steps will set in motion a transformation into a large-scale ecosystem similar to WeChat.

In February 2023, the meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin rose in response to a series of Musk’s tweets. The entrepreneur introduced his dog named Floki as Twitter’s CEO and a new member of the company’s board.
