Qrator Labs specialists have uncovered a new scheme on fraudulent websites — attackers promise earnings from mining cryptocurrencies through users’ devices. This was reported by Kommersant.
Users are offered up to 20,000 rubles per hour for renting out idle computing power of their computers. To receive the money, they must pay for ‘verification’. Payouts allegedly can be made starting from 10,000 rubles.
Qrator Labs noted that so far the attackers are only deducting 400 rubles for passing verification. At the same time, they have access to users’ bank card data, and it is possible that funds could be withdrawn from their accounts.
The idea is based on ‘classic mechanisms for extracting money from citizens’, said Andrey Arsentyev, head of analytics and special projects at InfoWatch.
Over the first six months of 2020 alone, Kaspersky Lab identified more than 23,000 scam resources on Runet.
