Experts say Tor access is no longer blocked in Russia

In Russia, access to the Tor network is no longer being restricted; only the main torproject.org site is blocked. This was reported by experts from Roskomsvoboda.

Since the beginning of December, when various experts began to document the Tor blockade in Russia, the number of connections to the network via bridges has surged. Over the past week, the number of daily connections through bridges exceeded 16,000, Russia accounted for 31% of bridge connections worldwide — the largest share among all countries, according to «Известия».

The Tor Project team, in response to the blocks, urged the creation and use of bridges. According to project representatives, residents of Russia account for 15% of all users.

Russians make up 15% of all Tor users—our second largest user group. Despite an incredible recent boom in obs4 bridges, we need *many more* bridges to keep all Russian Tor users online, and it needs to happen fast.

Earlier Roskomnadzor blocked the main torproject.org site due to information published there that was deemed illegal. The agency did not specify what information it considered illegal.
