Fake Bitcoin farm on Twitter raises $100,000 in two hours
Popular Twitter DeFi researcher FatManTerra, as part of an experiment, devised a fake investment scheme and raised more than $100,000 in Bitcoin in a couple of hours.
FatManTerra is followed by more than 101,000 people. He is known as a former supporter of Terra, who now actively voices opposition to the project after its $40 billion collapse in May.
On September 5 he posted a tweet about allegedly gaining access to a ‘high-yield Bitcoin farm’ from an unnamed fund, and invited followers to join farming.
FatManTerra deliberately did not disclose further details of the investment scheme, but even without this information he managed, within a couple of hours, to raise Bitcoin worth more than $100,000.
“I want to send a clear signal to everyone in the crypto world — anyone who promises you easy money is lying. Influencers selling quick-trading courses or promising handsome investment opportunities deceive you,” he added.
FatManTerra asserts that he has returned all the money to users.
He added that the experiment was inspired by the Lady of Crypto account, which has been accused of promoting dubious investment schemes among 257,500 followers.
Earlier, ForkLog reported that attackers hacked the PwC Venezuela auditor firm’s Twitter account to promote a fake XRP giveaway on behalf of Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
