Fake Uniswap app steals $20,000 from a user

A fake Uniswap app in the Google Play store is stealing cryptocurrency from users. One of them has already lost $20,000.

The affected person was an acquaintance of Nuggets News founder Alex Saunders.

“The app has 100 fake positive reviews, so he trusted it and entered the phrase to recover the private key,” wrote Saunders.

The latest release of the app was posted on November 10 by a developer named Unidex. It has been installed more than a hundred times. At the same time, Uniswap currently has no official mobile app.

Users who downloaded the app are advised to transfer their cryptocurrency to a new wallet.

As of writing, the fake app remained available for download.

As noted, Google Play has repeatedly hosted apps aimed at stealing cryptocurrency. In November 2018, four fake wallets for Neo, Tether and Ethereum were discovered there. The latter also posed as MetaMask.

In May 2019, more than a thousand users downloaded the fake Trezor Mobile Wallet app, masquerading as a popular wallet.

In early March 2020, apps broadcasting Bitcoin and blockchain-industry news began to disappear from Google Play.
