FBI Shuts Down Deep Dot Web and Arrests Administrators
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested several individuals suspected of operating the darknet news site Deep Dot Web. They are accused of facilitating user access to darknet markets where illegal goods are sold. According to investigators, these individuals earned millions of dollars by posting links to .onion domains of illicit marketplaces, reports TechCrunch.
Currently, the Deep Dot Web site displays a notice indicating its closure by the FBI under a warrant issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania. The operation was conducted with the involvement of Europol, which coordinated actions on the European side.
As part of this case, Tel Aviv police made two arrests. One suspect was detained in the Israeli capital, while the other was apprehended in Ashdod. The men are reported to be 35 and 34 years old, respectively.
Earlier, during an international operation involving Europol, Germany’s Federal Criminal Police, and German prosecutors, servers of the darknet marketplace Wall Street Market were seized, and its alleged operators—three German citizens from the southern federal states—were arrested.
Simultaneously, major drug vendors using the Wall Street Market platform were detained near Los Angeles. Charges were also filed against a Brazilian resident believed to be a market moderator.
In parallel, the darknet marketplace Silkkitie (or Valhalla) was shut down, with its servers seized in Finland.
In mid-April, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of three members of the Sinmed group, a leading narcotics vendor on the largest darknet market, Dream Market, which has been inaccessible since late March. Some observers speculate that it is already under law enforcement control.
