In a separate article we provide a list of useful links for anyone who wants to learn more about Free TON, join the community, or become a project partner.
Earlier, entrepreneur Pavel Durov planned to create a blockchain platform Telegram Open Network (TON) and integrate it with the Telegram messenger.
The launch of the network in October 2019 was hindered by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. As a result, Durov announced Telegram’s withdrawal from the TON project, though its developers managed to publish the source code for all major elements of the platform.
Against this backdrop, more than twenty organizations and teams, some of which had participated in TON’s development, founded Free TON. The main network of the new project was launched on May 7, 2020.
