Amrita Shrivastava, who worked at Binance Holdings from 2022 to 2023, has filed a lawsuit against the company’s UK division, alleging bribery and unfair dismissal. This was reported by Bloomberg.
The document states that she became aware of a colleague receiving bribes from a client under the guise of providing consulting services. Since then, the colleague has left the firm.
Shrivastava informed senior management and was dismissed a month later.
She described the company environment as “chaotic” and said there was “pressure to close deals.”
The platform was attempting to fill a “gap” in revenue after it was revealed that about a quarter of the division’s income previously came from a client linked to Iran, she claimed.
According to court documents, Binance executives were already aware of the bribery incident. The company had a culture of regularly weeding out unscrupulous employees.
“The decision to terminate employment for poor performance was made before Shrivastava raised concerns about an issue that was already […] under the focus of the internal audit group,” responded a company representative.
Claimants challenging unfair dismissal in the UK may receive up to 105,700 GBP (~$134,150), while compensation for whistleblowers is unlimited, according to the agency.
In November, lawyers representing Binance and its former CEO Changpeng Zhao demanded the dismissal of an updated lawsuit by the SEC.
In August, a complaint was filed in a Seattle federal court against the platform and its founder. According to the statement, three crypto investors failed to recover stolen assets because the exchange could not prevent money laundering.
