Former CFTC Commissioner to Lead Blockchain Association

Commissioner CFTC Summer Mersinger will step down on May 30. Starting June 2, she will assume the role of CEO at the nonprofit Blockchain Association.

“She is the perfect leader for the association at a pivotal moment,” said Blockchain Association board president Marta Belcher.

Mersinger’s departure marks the second change at the CFTC this month: earlier, Christy Goldsmith Romero announced her plans to leave the Commission. This will leave the regulator with two active commissioners.

Mersinger’s decision coincides with Congress’s active work on legislation regulating stablecoins and the digital asset market as a whole. The projects have faced criticism due to Donald Trump’s involvement in the crypto market.

In April, Blockchain Association CEO Kristin Smith announced her move to the Solana Policy Institute.

Back in December 2024, a16z Crypto’s policy director Brian Quintenz emerged as the leading candidate for the position of CFTC chairman.
