Former DigitalX chief named Binance Australia CEO

Leigh Travers, former CEO of DigitalX, the world’s first publicly listed blockchain company, has been appointed head of Binance’s Australian arm.

Travers worked at DigitalX for seven years. He also served on the board of the Blockchain Australia association for five years.

Among his priorities as Binance Australia’s new CEO are building the exchange’s relationships with the country’s regulators and developing the company’s brand.

«As market leaders in digital assets, we bear responsibility for the growth of our industry, which implies priority in engaging with policymakers and regulators,» Travers said.

Binance Australia was launched in July 2020. The previous head of the bitcoin exchange, Jeff Yu, left the company in April 2021.

Earlier in August, Binance US CEO Brian Brooks abruptly left the position three months after his appointment. Media reported on his conflict with Changpeng Zhao. The position of Brooks was temporarily filled by Binance.US Chief Financial Officer Joshua Sroge.

In late August, former head of regulation for the SGX Richard Teng took the helm of Binance Singapore. On the same day, journalist Colin Wu, citing “multiple sources”, said that the bitcoin exchange plans to attract funds from Singapore’s sovereign funds at a $200 billion valuation.
