Former FTX Executive Ryan Salame’s Prison Term Reduced

Ryan Salame, the former head of the Bahamian division of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, will serve one year less than his original prison sentence in Cumberland, Maryland, USA. This information is available on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website.

In September 2023, he pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the collapse of FTX. These charges involved conspiracy to make unlawful donations and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business.

In late May, the Southern District of New York court sentenced the former CEO of FTX Digital Markets to 90 months (7.5 years) in prison. He began serving his sentence in October and was initially expected to be released around April 2032.

However, at the time of writing, the Bureau’s website lists a different release date—March 2031. The reasons for this change are unknown.

Before Salame, former Alameda Research head Caroline Ellison, FTX CTO Gary Wang, and the exchange’s head of engineering Nishad Singh also agreed to plead guilty. According to the same website, Ellison’s sentence was reduced by three months, with a new release date of July 20, 2026.

Back in November 2023, co-founder and former CEO of the exchange Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) was found guilty on all charges by a jury. In March 2024, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. SBF’s lawyers have appealed the court’s decision.
