Economist, politician, and former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis has sharply criticized contemporary supporters of the first cryptocurrency for abandoning the ideals of the cypherpunks and the concept outlined in Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin white paper.

“Bitcoin maximalists, who once vowed to overthrow central banks and Wall Street, are now begging them to buy large amounts of the first cryptocurrency to enrich themselves. They deserve our relentless contempt,” he wrote.
Varoufakis is known for his sharp criticism of neoliberal economic policies and the European Union, as well as his role in the negotiations over the Greek debt crisis in 2015. He advocates for radical reforms, the democratization of the financial system, and opposes the excessive influence of large banks and corporations.
He is also skeptical of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, considering them incapable of replacing traditional finance and serving as a tool for financial liberation.
Earlier, Tiger21 founder Michael Sonnenfeldt expressed the view that digital gold has become a means of preserving capital for wealthy investors.
