
Fortune and NFT artist pplpleasr launch charitable fund on the blockchain
The American business magazine Fortune and digital artist pplpleasr have launched a charitable fund to support journalistic integrity. This is stated in a press release.
The decentralized FORTUNE Journalism PleasrFund operates on the Ethereum blockchain via the nonprofit Endaoment.
The fund promotes independent investigative journalism and reporting, and also promotes integrity in the profession.
The magazine and the artist donated 214.55 ETH (about $165,000 at the time of transfer) — half of the proceeds from the joint NFT collection.
In August Fortune sold a cover of its issue as an NFT for 429 ETH (over $1.3 million at the time of the deal). The magazine outlined plans to ‘hodl’ the earned cryptocurrency.
Earlier, digital artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, sold his painting OCEAN FRONT as an NFT for $6 million. He donated the proceeds to combat climate change.
Earlier, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated 100 ETH and 100 MKR totaling over $600,000 to a fund to fight the coronavirus pandemic in India.
